Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the program take?

At one lesson per day, the 150-lesson program takes about 5-6 months. Each lesson is 5-10 minutes. Some learners may go faster; others may need to repeat lessons.

What age is this for?

Open Phonics works for any beginning reader, typically ages 4-8. It can also be used for older learners or adults who need systematic phonics instruction.

Do I need teaching experience?

No. Every lesson has a complete script telling you exactly what to say and do. Read the Guide before starting.

What if the learner is struggling?

Repeat the lesson the next day. Do not move forward until the learner can complete the lesson with confidence. It is normal to repeat lessons 2-3 times. If the learner is still struggling after several repetitions, go back a few lessons and rebuild from there.

Can I skip lessons?

No. The lessons are carefully sequenced. Each lesson builds on the previous one. Skipping ahead will leave gaps in the learner's knowledge.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Open Phonics is a Progressive Web App (PWA). After your first visit, it works without an internet connection.

How do I save progress?

Progress is saved automatically in your browser. You can create multiple student profiles on the Lessons page. Use the Export button to download a backup file, and the Import button to restore it on another device.

Is my data private?

Yes. All data stays on your device. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. See our Privacy Policy.

Troubleshooting

The pointer dot is not moving

Make sure JavaScript is enabled in your browser. Try refreshing the page. If the issue persists, try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari).

Progress was lost

Progress is stored in your browser's localStorage. Clearing your browser data, using private/incognito mode, or switching browsers will reset progress. Use the Export button regularly to back up your data.

Dark mode is not working

Click the sun/moon icon in the top right corner of the header to toggle dark mode. If it does not respond, try refreshing the page.
